Wálden Lamp
A grounded sculptural design for a battery powered lamp that serves as both an accessory as well as a portable tool.
Intended Person
Designed for an eclectic consumer who is interested in fun statement accessories for their home with a passion for natural materials and an appreciation for design.
Inspiration
A form inspired by mid-century modern furniture, as well as architecture by Ricardo Bofill and the transparency and lightness of different fabrics. Experimenting with how elemental textures interact and complement each other within the home.
Sketches
Thumbnail and perspective sketches made with ball point pen, experimenting with different forms and referencing different aesthetics.
Lo-fi Modeling
Low fidelity models made with cardboard, paper, and wire, for fast scale studies and to choose a final direction. Left is the form I chose, right is an approach at combining classic ornamentalism with contemporary minimalism.
Material
CAD Modeling mostly done on Fusion 360. Model done to scale including battery and utilized for 3d printing and CNC milling.
Took my time researching materials that were commonly used during the mid-century modern movement besides plywood and plastic that felt natural and permanent. For this product, I chose linen for the shade, mahogany wood, and travertine stone
Digital Modeling
High-fi Model
High fidelity model made using CNC milled foam and thin white acrylic. Model made for final scale and proportion studies, required iteration in the base and button sizing.
